How we came to Service Mesh? (Part-1)

I often asked by my friends, colleagues about service mesh. Why do we need it and what problems do it solve? I suggest they study online or google. However, when I, myself, search google gave hundred or thousands of articles. Majority articles start with what service mesh can do. But they don't talk about how we came to service mesh. In this article, I will go over a few simple steps and hopefully it will take us through the journey of how we reach to service mesh.
